Sylvie Daminet, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, DECVIM-CA

Sylvie Daminet graduated as a veterinarian in 1992 from the University of Liège in Belgium. Thereafter she moved abroad to specialise. She performed an internship followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Montreal in Canada. In 1996 she became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM&ECVIM-CA). She also obtained a  Master’s degree on canine thyroid function from the University of Montreal.

She was an assistant Professor at the universities of Montreal and Prince Edward Island in Canada and Lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College in London in England. She obtained her PhD on thyroid function tests in dogs at the University of Ghent in Belgium in 2002.

Currently she is a full Professor at the same University. She is head of the small animal internal medicine service. Her clinical and research interests are in endocrinology and nephrology. Under her guidance 15 PhD’s were defended successfully. She is program director of the residency program in Companion Animal Internal Medicine at Ghent University and (co-)-supervised many residents who became diplomate of the ECVIM-CA. Sylvie (co)-authored over 200 publications in international and national journals. She was president of the European Society of Veterinary Endocrinology from 2009 to 2011 (www.esve.org) and chair of the Specialty of Internal Medicine of ECVIM (2011-2014).

When she is not working, she enjoys swimming, horseback riding and music.  Her 2 sons, her husband and her pets enlighten her days.

Federico Fracassi, Associate Professor, Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences

Dr Fracassi graduated in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) “cum laude”  at the University of Bologna, Italy. In 2005 he defended his Ph.D. thesis and then completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Zurich, Switzerland and became ECVIM-CA (internal medicine) diplomate in 2012. He is now an Associate Professor of Veterinary Internal Medicine at the University of Bologna. His main research focus is the field of small animal endocrinology. His publication list consists of more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 10 book chapters. He is the editor of “Veterinaria”, a peer-reviewed journal and associate editor of Journal of Small Animal Practice. He has been president of the European Society of Veterinary Endocrinology, and the Italian Society of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and is currently vice-president of the ECVIM-CA congress board.  In 2017 he co-edited “Feline Endocrinology” (a book translated into 6 languages) with Dr Feldman and Dr Peterson. In 2022 has edited “Diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms in internal medicine for dogs and cats” (book translated in 7 languages). Dr Fracassi has lectured in in 22 countries.
