About Istanbul
Istanbul has a wealth of delights to offer its visitors. The Topkapi Sarayi Palace lies on the Bosphorus and contains many of the most holy relics of the Muslim world - including what is believed to be the Prophet Mohammed's cloak and sword. In addition there are large collections of robes, weapons, shields, jewellery and other treasures from the Ottoman era. The Süleymaniye Mosque, built in the 16th Century by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent is also one of Istanbul's best known attractions and a must see for all visitors.
No trip to Istanbul would be complete without a shopping trip to the Grand Bazaar, which is one of the largest covered markets in the world. Renowned for its jewellery, carpets, hand painted ceramics, leather goods and antique shops, there is something for everyone but don't forget to hone your bargaining skills first!
The Spice Bazaar (Egyptian Bazaar) located close by, is also a must see, replete with aromatic fragrances of cinnamon, caraway, saffron, mint, and many other herbs and spices, this is the ultimate place to experience the authentic smells and tastes of the city.
